Background
Antonio Citterio was born in Meda, Italy in 1950 and has, among other projects, designed the Kelvin and Lastra lamps for Flos. As an industrial designer Citterio has worked for both Italian and international companies such as Italia, Flexform, Flos, Iittala, Axor-Hansgrohe, Hermès, Kartell

He was educated as an architect at the Polytechnic University of Milan and opened his architecture and interior design studio in 1972. He is an internationally-acclaimed architect and has won several architecture competitions.

Between 1987 and 1996 he worked together with Terry Dwan and together they created buildings in both Europe and Japan.

In 1999 he founded Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel with Patricia Viel, an interdisciplinary practice for architecture, industrial design and graphics.

The practice develops projects for residential and apartment complexes, hotels, shopping centres, industrial buildings, conversion of public buildings, planning of offices and showrooms and corporate communication.

In 2005 Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel won a competition to design a hotel for the HafenCity district in Hamburg and achieved a second prize in the competition to design a hotel for the new Rho-Pero exhibition facility in Milan.

In the same year their design for the Neumühlen project won second place in the Hamburg Architektur Preis and an honourable mention in the Deutscher Architektur Preis.

Also in 2005 the practice won second prize in the competition to design the Parco Levante Cesenatico and won an international competition to renovate the Ferrante Aporti building in Milan, formerly home to the Italian postal service.

In 2007 their design for the Diocesano Musem in Milan won second prize in another international competition. Citterio was named Royal Designer for Industry by the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce in London in the same year.

Since 2006 Antonio Citterio has been a professor at the Accademia di Architettura dell'Università della Svizzera Italiana. In 2007 he became a member of the Italian Design Council.
