Alberto Meda was born in Tremezzina, Italy in 1945. In 1969 he received a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan. In 1973 he became the technical manager of Kartell, with responsibility for the development of furniture and plastic lab equipment.
In 1979 he started working as a freelance industrial designer for a variety of companies including Alfa Romeo Auto, Alias, Alessi, Arabia Finland, Cinelli, Brevetti Gaggia, JCDecaux, Ideal Standard, Luceplan, Legrand, Mandarina Duck, Omron Japan, Philips, Olivetti and Vitra.

From 1983 to 1987 he was a lecturer in industrial technology at Domus Academy. He has held seminars at the International Design Symposium, in Fukui, Workshop Design Quest in Osaka and the Design Center in Tokyo. From 1955 he was a lecturer for the Master’s program in Industrial Design at the Polytechnic University of Milan. Since 2003 he has lectured and held workshops at IUAV in Venice.

Meda’s work is very well-known and has been recognized in many international competitions:

Several of Meda’s creations work are part of the Museum of Modern Art (New York) Design collection, including the On Off lamp from Luceplan from 1988.
