The Lampe Gras 214 wall light embodies the characteristic combination of functionality, robustness and timeless aesthetics. Its rounded design gives the light a harmonious silhouette and makes it a versatile classic.

The origins of the Lampe Gras collection date back to 1922, when Bernard-Albin Gras developed his first designs. Originally intended for offices and industrial spaces, the range was characterised by its simple, robust yet ergonomic design. The basic construction was far ahead of its time and required no screws or welded joints.

The well-thought-out design of the arms, lampshades, fittings and joints gives the 214 its unmistakable character. Le Corbusier, too, was an early admirer of the Lampe Gras’s modern design language and incorporated the lights into his projects.

The lampshade, made of raw copper, is initially supplied untreated and polished. It is only after unpacking that natural oxidation begins through contact with the environment. As this happens, the surface gradually changes and develops its characteristic, vibrant look.

Humidity, temperature and other environmental factors influence the speed of the patination process. The first signs of darkening may become visible after around 14 days. As conditions vary from one environment to another, it is not possible to specify an exact timeframe for the surface to fully develop.

If you wish to speed up the oxidation process, you can place the lampshade outdoors in the shade for a few days, ensuring it is protected. Over time, this creates a unique surface that gives the light its distinctive character.
