The PH Artichoke was designed by Poul Henningsen in 1958. He was commissioned to design a hanging light for the Langelinie Pavilions in Copenhagen that would be completely glare-free. His ingenious solution was to arrange 72 leaves in 12 rows, thereby creating a light that is glare-free from every angle. The hanging light is now regarded as an icon. It is famous throughout the world and still hangs in the pavilions in Copenhagen. The PH Artichoke is also known as ‘Kögl’ (the cone), named after its distinctive shape.
