The origins of the Lampe Gras collection date back to 1922, when Bernard-Albin Gras developed his first well-thought-out designs. Originally conceived for offices and industrial spaces, the range was characterised by its simple, robust yet ergonomic design. The basic construction required no screws or welded joints.

The individual elements – such as the arms, bodies, fittings and joints – display exceptional originality and a design language that was far ahead of its time. Le Corbusier was fascinated by the modern design of the Lampe Gras from an early stage and incorporated the lights into his projects.

Today, the models are regarded worldwide as sought-after design classics and collectors’ items, particularly in France, the USA and Japan. Bernard-Albin Gras’s visionary design has proved to be timeless.

A special feature of the raw copper version: the lampshade is initially supplied bare and untreated. The natural patina only begins to develop once the lamp has been unpacked. Air, humidity and temperature influence the development of the surface, meaning that no exact timeframe can be specified. The material may begin to darken visibly after as little as 14 days.

Over time, the characteristic raw copper look develops, with its own unique nuances. The surface also changes naturally through touch.

The 304CA features a cable for connection to a power point, making it particularly suitable for flexible installation without direct recessing into the wall.
